Replens Long-Lasting Feminine Moisturizer

How Does Replens Work?

Replens Long-Lasting Vaginal Moisturizer contains a patented ingredient for soothing and long-lasting moisture. When you apply Replens, it immediately goes to work to provide long lasting moisture. As the cells of the vaginal wall are regenerated, dry cells are cleared and Replens is eliminated naturally. As with dry skin that you experience on your face and hands, regular moisturizing may be necessary to prevent dryness from recurring.

Replens can be used any time of day or night. Replens works best when used on a regular schedule and not just prior to intercourse. Will Replens Long Lasting Moisturizer make intimacy more enjoyable?

One of the most common ways that women discover vaginal dryness is during intimacy. When used regularly, Replens replenishes your natural vaginal moisture, making intimacy more enjoyable. Replens’ formula delivers long lasting moisture so sexual intercourse can be more spontaneous. Since Replens does not need to be applied immediately before intercourse, it does not interrupt the moment by being runny, messy or slippery. Instead, Replens provides long-lasting lubrication whenever the moment is right.

This fluctuation can be triggered by childbirth, breastfeeding or menopause. Dryness can also be caused by taking certain medications, exercising intensively or being under stress. It is also common to experience vaginal dryness when douching, using tampons or at the end of the menstrual cycle.

What is Osphena? Should I use Replens to address vaginal dryness?

Osphena is a new prescription drug that was introduced recently as a treatment for moderate to severe painful intercourse, a common symptom related to changes in the vagina due to menopause. Osphena is classified as a selective estrogen receptor modulators, or SERMs. These types of medications act on some tissues like estrogen, so it helps produces moisture for the vagina.

According to the FDA, common side effects of the new medication included hot flashes, vaginal discharge, muscle spasms and excessive sweating. The usage instructions state that Osphena should be used for the shortest amount of time possible to achieve patients' treatment goals.

Since vaginal dryness continues to worsen after menopause, Replens is a clinically shown solution for women. Replens Long-Lasting Vaginal Moisturizer is estrogen free, studied to be as effective as effective as vaginal estrogen and recommended as first line therapy for the challenge of vaginal dryness. It is a long acting vaginal moisturizer, and can be used on a long term basis.

When is a long-lasting feminine moisturizer better than a lubricant?

Many health experts recommend using both a feminine/vaginal moisturizer and a lubricant to alleviate vaginal dryness. Lubricants are recommended for use as needed during sex to enhance intimacy. Replens Long-Lasting Feminine Moisturizer is recommended twice a week to replenish vaginal moisture and lasts 3 to 5 days.

How does Replens compare to K-Y Lubricant?

Replens Long-Lasting Feminine Moisturizer is different than other lubricants, such as K-Y Jelly. Lubricants can help in the moment of intimacy and intercourse, but they rarely provide lasting moisture. Replens immediately goes to work providing soothing moisture for dry vaginal cells and continues to deliver moisture for DAYS. That is because Replens contains a bio-adhesive that allows it to attach to dry, compacted cells and deliver continuous moisture until those cells are naturally regenerated (about every 3 to 5 days). Replens leaves vaginal tissues hydrated and rejuvenated.

How does Replens compare to Luvena?

Gynecologists have long recommended Replens Long-Lasting Feminine Moisturizer to their patients as an essential way to address vaginal dryness. Replens has been extensively clinically studied, the results show Replens is effective at alleviating vaginal dryness.

Luvena claims that prebiotic formulations made with glycogen, cranberry extract and enzymes can be used to effectively treat vaginal dryness. There are no known clinical studies that substantiate these prebiotic claims. Nor is Luvena FDA cleared.

Does Replens contain glycerin?

Glycerin is commonly found in moisturizing products because it assists in maintaining moisture over a relatively long period of time. Replens provides immediate alleviation of dryness symptoms and replenishes moisture for 3-5 days, providing soothing moisture to dry vaginal cells for long lasting hydration. This leaves vaginal tissues feeling hydrated and rejuvenated.

Does the glycerin in Replens cause yeast infections?

Replens has been tested extensively in clinical studies of over 500 women. None of the results showed a connection to any sort of infections. Nor are we aware of any clinical research that has studied whether the amount of glycerin present in Replens causes yeast infections. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), yeast infections occur when there is overgrowth of the yeast called Candida that is always present in and on the body in small amounts. Candida yeast overgrowth often occurs during hormonal imbalance or various medical conditions. Symptoms of yeast infection may include genital itching, burning, and sometimes a "cottage cheese-like" vaginal discharge. We suggest that you see your doctor if you have any of these symptoms.

Are there any side effects after using Replens?

Some women notice a residue or discharge after initial use of Replens. This is caused by the elimination of dead skin cells. Your body naturally sheds dry vaginal tissue that has built up over time. When used on a regular basis, Replens will help prevent the buildup of dead skin cells and the discharge should dissipate. If the discharge does not dissipate, you may wish to wait an extra day or two between applications. While use is recommended every three days, every woman is unique and you may wish to increase or decrease the amount of time between Replens applications to maximize moisture and minimize discharge.

Does Replens Long-Lasting Moisturizer have similar side effects as hormone replacement therapies (e.g. vaginal estrogen creams, tablets or rings) for vaginal dryness?

No. Replens does not cause the same side effects that are common with many prescription vaginal estrogens (i.e. creams or tablets). According to The New England Journal of Medicine, Replens provided relief of vaginal dryness symptoms that was equivalent to that of vaginal estrogen. For many women suffering from feminine dryness due to menopause, regular use (1-2 times per week) of Replens has been an effective way to alleviate dryness.

While most vaginal estrogens are considered safe and effective for short term treatment of vaginal dryness, higher doses or more frequent use of vaginal estrogens can increase systemic levels of estrogen and potentially cause side effects. Here are some of the common side effects of leading prescription products that address vaginal dryness:

  • OSPHENA – Common side effects can include hot flashes, vaginal discharge, muscle spasms and increased sweating
  • PREMARIN – Common side effects can include vaginitis due to yeast or other causes, vaginal bleeding, painful menstruation, and leg cramps
  • PREMPRO – Common side effects can include vaginal bleeding, vaginitis due to yeast or other causes, painful menstruation, breast enlargement, breast pain, and leg cramps
Talk to your doctor about the risks of hormone therapy. Ask your doctor if Replens Long-Lasting Vaginal Moisturizer can help with dryness symptoms like discomfort or painful intimacy.
